Having an open-plan office has helped one company boost productivity and communication.
Adam Hill, chief executive officer of LGM Financial Services, made sure the re-design of the Vancouver’s MNP Tower headquarters encouraged more interaction between employees and management by getting rid of offices, even for senior managers like Mr Hill himself.
Speaking with the Vancouver Sun, he said: “Because of the very thoughtful layout we embarked on it’s actually enabled people to be even more effective, more collaborative and I would dare say the cultural impact has been very positive.”
Mr Hill noted that more employees have been coming up to him for a quick conversation than would have if he had been separated in an office.
He stated that the open-plan design helped to “break down that perception” of senior managers being ominous and unapproachable.
The modern design has had such a positive response that it won Best Tenant Improvement Award at the Commercial Real Estate Awards of Excellence in Vancouver.
As well as having an open-plan design, its staircases are painted in a bright yellow to draw people to them, which is meant to motivate staff to move between the floors. There are also patio areas to enable employees to book spaces outside and for all staff to gather together when necessary.
If this has inspired you to consider an office refurbishment to break down barriers between departments and management, APSS can help create an interior design that will completely change your office space and increase productivity within your workforce.
