“It has been a pleasure to work with the APSS team. We appreciate their friendly, patient approach to the challenge of a build project on a fully operational holiday park. They provided expertise and sound advice on how to move the project forward and delivered a successful, stunning final product.

“These guys are professionals and that’s why we have engaged them on other major projects at Bainland for completion in 2024.”

Nick Rouse, Finance and Operations Director, Bainland Lodge Retreats

The brief

APSS was approached by family-run business Bainland Lodge Retreats to expand The Nest, its luxury restaurant and bar, as part of the final phase of a £3 million refurbishment to the main building.  It required a private dining area for larger parties especially families and groups of friends, providing a more intimate socialising area and games lounge.

The challenge

The improvements included transforming an existing area into a private dining room and a snug, plus designing and installing a mezzanine floor to create additional space for the games lounge.

It was important that there was minimal disruption while the work was undertaken to ensure guests could continue to enjoy their stay without being disturbed.

Solution

Following the client briefing, APSS completed a survey, developed a concept design from an initial architect’s plan, and created construction drawings for the enhanced space in The Nest.

At the start of the project APSS installed an acoustic wall to significantly reduce the noise level while the construction works were under way. This ensured Bainland’s customers’ experience was not diminished.

The hallway was transformed with a stylish new black and white tiled floor and bespoke wooden storage cupboards with sliding doors.

In the new dining area APSS installed new walls, a double-height ceiling and large glass exterior for a light and airy feel. This stylish room features bespoke joinery providing a little extra luxury for guests including a new serving station with copper worktop and cupboard handles, a large 24-person dining table and credenza-style media unit. All was designed and created in-house at the APSS workshop. Acoustic partition walls were also added to ensure guests have privacy in the intimate dining area.

The games lounge, which has an American pool table and an interactive dart board, and stairwell were constructed with acoustics in mind.

In the snug, APSS installed traditional Georgian-style panelling with mirrors, engineered flooring and a media unit along with the client’s upholstered designer furniture.

The toilet also has wooden panelling and floor and wall tiling to complement the rich floral wallpaper design.

A ‘call for service’ buzzer was installed by APSS in all three areas for customer convenience.

The new luxury facilities and interactive media allows Bainland to capitalise on a gap in the market it has identified for hosting corporate hospitality in stylish surroundings.
