The Brief
Our furniture company TPS was chosen to furnish the newly redeveloped Barbican Creative Hub, a multifunctional space for the region’s creative sector. Located in a refurbished Grade II-listed building in central Lincoln, the hub needed to accommodate everything from co-working and meetings to exhibitions, events, and café-style social spaces.
Working in collaboration with the interior designer, we were tasked with sourcing and installing a pre-defined and diverse range of furniture across the site, including:
- Task chairs and soft seating
- Meeting tables and Zoom tables
- Restaurant and café-style chairs and tables
- Modular and lounge furniture for flexible collaboration zones
The furniture specification spanned more than 20 different suppliers across at least six countries, requiring precise coordination to ensure design integrity and delivery within tight project timescales.

The Challenge
Partway through the project, several of the originally specified suppliers were unable to fulfil their orders due to availability issues. This presented a risk to both the design scheme and the project timeline.
Working quickly and collaboratively with the designer, we sourced alternative furniture that matched the intended style, function, and layout. This ensured the visual consistency of the space was maintained without compromising on quality or design intent.
On top of this, the site’s central location and lack of direct parking access required careful planning. We coordinated with local authorities to secure temporary unloading permissions in restricted areas, allowing our team to deliver and install the furniture efficiently and without disruption.
The Outcome
The Barbican Creative Hub is now fully furnished and ready to welcome the next generation of creatives in Lincolnshire. The finished space includes co-working areas, studios, meeting rooms, a members’ lounge, café seating, and a flexible event space, all equipped with modern, comfortable, and design-led furniture that reflects the creative energy of the building and its users.
