      A small office design

    Created on: 8th August 2018

Take a look at our interior design ideas for smaller offices and workspaces.

Physical working space is one of the most important elements of a working environment, so it is vital to nail the commercial interior design of your small space in order to  gain the greatest productivity. The small office layout is even more challenging than a large office space, as it makes things even harder to design in an efficient way. There are, however, some universal office layout ideas that can be implemented to instantly create more space, saving you the hassle of considering a move to a larger premises:

    Open Plan Layout

Businesses operating within a small building often struggle for floor-space, once they have factored in individual offices, meeting rooms, toilets, kitchen space, and storage. Therefore, by opening up the spaces, with removed walls, a lot more floor space can be created, as well as creating a space that is more sociable and lighter. A building that once contained 4 separate offices could find that by knocking down interior walls, desk space for up to 20 or more people could be created. This may mean removing meeting room space, however, you should consider how important these meeting rooms actually are, and if they are really needed? A lot of wasted office time takes place in meeting rooms, so it may be more efficient to have these meetings at desk spaces instead, or alternatively in a separate venue to make sure that more gets done!

    Office Mezzanines

Mezzanine floors and office mezzanines, in many cases, can double the available flooring space of an office, which can be especially useful in small, single storey buildings. As well as being aesthetically very pleasing, office mezzanines give you the option to add extra desk space, meeting rooms or new storage, making life much easier on a day to day basis.

Mezzanine floors can also be extremely cost-effective, especially when compared to the cost and hassle of relocating to a new venue. The majority of mezzanines don’t even require planning permission, due to their size, however, even if they do it’s usually not a very complicated process.

    Glass Partitions

Although an open plan environment works very well for some businesses, for others there is still a need for spaces to be sectioned off, either to create a sense of privacy, noise reduction or to create a boundary for specialist teams or groups. Glass partitions or glass walls can help to facilitate this need by creating a divide, however, still keeping a sense of openness and improving the impact and dispersion of light.

Glass naturally creates an air of increased space, especially compared to brick walls, therefore, for smaller spaces, glass partitions can be extremely useful.
