Created on: 28th October 2016

Darren Crookes, Managing Director of APSS was honored to be awarded Business Person of the Year at the 2016 Lincolnshire Business Awards.

Darren Crookes is Managing Director of APSS. He set up the business nearly 20 years ago in his own home. Today the business owns a 16,000 sq. ft state of the art office and joinery workshop in Lincoln, directly employs 45 people and is projected to turn over £32m in the 2016/17 financial year.

Darren is a hands on Managing Director, still managing a number of key clients and working closely with the team on large projects.

In 2014, after a few office moves, he made the decision to invest heavily in the business and purchased an old dilapidated building and transformed it into a modern office space and workshop.

Today they occupy the stand out building on Kingsley Road in Lincoln and have a team of Designers, Sales & Business Development, Quantity Surveyors, Project Managers, Joinery Team and Admin Support. This year, Darren won the Institute of Directors East Midlands Director of the Year Award.

Citation: He has taken his business from an enterprise in his bedroom to a company with a turnover of £32 million. It has taken 20 years and in that time not only has the business changed and grown but so has Darren.

The judges said: "He's changed as a person and now learns from other people. He's built a great team of loyal people. He has also learned to shout a little more about the business. Darren demonstrates adaptability and vision and has built a sustainable developed team. He's leading a Lincolnshire business to make an impact nationally."
