Many of the mezzanine floor structures that we construct have the requirement for fire rating to the underside of the floor for a minimum of 60 minutes. The purpose of this is to maintain the integrity of the construction to allow persons to evacuate and emergency personnel to perform rescue operations.

Fire rating is normally specified by building regulation control, our approved inspectors can advise you if this is applicable in the case of your mezzanine structure. Fire rating is also applied to the structures to generally improve aesthetics, this covers the structure of the floor from view, helping to create a more pleasing environment.

To achieve this fire rating we will generally do the following:

  • Suspended ceiling tiles to the underside of the mezzanine structure
  • Galvanised or nylon faced column casings to all uprights
  • Galvanised or nylon faced fascia to the exposed edges of the floor
  • Fire break barriers within the ceiling void at set travel distances

Here at apss we also offer this service to other mezzanine contractors, we are also happy to quote to “retro-fit” fire rating to an existing mezzanine structure.

apss are accredited to and members of the trade organisations and working practices shown across.
